I was wondering what you all consider to be the positive aspects of nursing? For me, a LOT has to do with job security and the pay. It's one sure way I know of always being able to put food on the table and having a little extra money to have a nice vacation once in a while, or a great new pair of shoes. I also like helping people change their lives so they live longer and healthier. I like that I can teach them things.... it's helps me to remember to be healthier in my own life.

I got into nursing for the job security but have found it a tough market for a recent grad so far. I've had a job since I graduated but have been anxious to make a move and haven't found a lot of openings for recent grads. I am going to agree with you that one positive aspect of nursing, for me, is that I am much more cognizant of my own health, safety, and well being as a result of seeing people in compromised conditions as a result of not taking care of themselves. Overall, I just really enjoy providing care for people in need. It makes me feel like I have value and something to give

I got into nursing because it was a brainiac thing to do and I could keep the roof over our heads and live anywhere in the country. My passion is writing, first and foremost, and healthcare is a huge topic. I will always have plenty of fodder for any type of book, from healthcare to humor, I've got the right job!

I like the fact that I can bring some holistic remedies into my practice and that I don't always have to rely on meds. I like that the doctors respect my opinion and that I get to consult with other disciplines. I feel like I have a lot of autonomy in my career.

I wanted to add that like nursing because I can do so many different things with my degree. I worked in law for 17 years and am considering doing the Legal Nurse Consultant thing on the side. I might as well combine two areas of experience!
