I've never been to Houston, but always thought it would be fun; curious about
Austin too, although Dallas holds no draw for me! I've driven through Texas (really flat) on my way back from the desert of Arizona.... was just happy to see GREEN in Amarillo... or was in Lubbock, can't remember! haha

I just graduated with my RN in May, I have been am LPN for 4 years and employed at a nursing home. My frustration is that I want to get into a hospital but do to the economy, the hospitals are not hiring. I live in the Rockford, IL area. My plans are to move dowtown Chicago and get a really good nursing job there. Any chicago nurses out there??

I am from Rockford, Il area and you are living my dream. I just graduated with my RN in May and passed my boards in July. I've been an LPN for 4 years in a nursing home. My plan is to get out of Rockford and move downtown Chicago and get a good ursing job in one of the hopitals there. I've never worked in a hospital and I have so much to learn but I can't wait. I also plan on getting my BSN once I get settled. What area of nursing are you in??

Welcome to the site! Glad to hear that you made the transition from LPN to RN. It's not much different from being an LPN... more paperwork and responsibility though! I live in the Cleveland area, but love Chicago too!

Re: nurse2009 (Post 179)
I work in adult telemetry and do 12 hour night shifts. It's VERY fast paced, but it makes the night go fast. Good for you for setting your sights on your BSN! Lots of writing in that path!

I'm in the Midwest... used to work on telemetry, now I work on an oncology unit. Vastly different, but in a good way!

Hi I am ALSO new to this site. I live in Bowling Green MO and am having to move up to Grand Rapids MN in a few weeks d/t my husband was transfered up there. I have been looking online to see if I could find any LPN jobs up there and I'm just simply not having any luck finding ANYTHING to do with nursing up there! Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Re: lgreenlpn (Post 248)
Just Google the city and state and add "hospital" after the search terms, there are a couple that come up. Also search the same way but add physicians or nursing homes if you want to work in those settings.

Hi babycatcher, No, I haven't made it to Houston yet but I've been interviewing at a couple of places. It is going to be a big change but I think I'm ready for the challenge. Trying to figure out where to live and what areas to avoid. H-Town is a huge place!!

Anyone able to offer any advice on affordable and safe places to live in Houston? I would like to be nearer to downtown than outlying areas like Pearland and Sugarland...

Re: newRN23 (Post 309)
When I worked in the med center I lived off of Kirby near Richmond. If you drive around you can find quaint, affordable apartments. It is a really nice area and close to downtown, the museum district, medical center, and Rice University. Most of the places around there are upscale and expensive but there are also older, affordable places to be found too. At least that was the case 5 or 6 years ago when I was there. Great area~!

I am new to this site as well. I graduated with my Associate of Science in Nursing in May 2010, and I have had no luck what so ever with obtaining an entry level position. It is so discouraging b/c as most of you know who have been in school for nursing it takes alot of work and dedication so I am shocked to still not have a job. I have done resume after resume and applies all over the state of Indiana and I have no idea where to go from here??????
