It has been very hard for me to find a job since I moved from one county to the next. I have a MSN but no one seems to be hiring.

Welcome clarkemi,

We can sympathize with you on the job search pain. A few questions:
1) In what country did you get your MSN?
2) What country did you move from?
3) What country did you move to?

Give us some more details and maybe we can help with some advice Very Happy

Sorry, did I write Country, if so I meant County. I moved from Sarasota county back to Broward after a 9 month faculty teaching position ended. Thanks for the interest but now I am job hunting, again.

My mistake, my eyes are bleary from lack of sleep. Couple more questions: Are you intent on staying in Florida or are you open to making a move? Do you want to stay in education or would you consider other options such as management or even working the floor?

I presently need to pay my bills so right now my option is to work with what I have even though I would prefer to teach. In the mean time I am seeking other opportunities. I have filled out quite a few applications since I have been back in this area in May.

There's no nursing shortage where I live, and there's never been one. Before the economy took a dive, you could say there was a slight one in Cleveland, but many of their hospitals have hiring freezes in place. From what I understand (and I stay in the know through my nursing mentor who is also a nurse recruiter), there is still a shortage of qualified nurses in the South. Texas desperately needs nurses; the Carolinas and Florida need them. From what I understand from travel nurse agencies, they don't have a shortage of jobs for their travelers in the South. Two RN friends of mine just got hired at Florida hospital for HUGE bonuses...... wicked jealous of that, for sure, but I don't like Florida much!

I've noticed that there's no shortage here either.... I'm in Cleveland. The Clinic even did away with its sign-on bonuses, but the good news is that there are "some" openings, and the VA is hiring. The benefits there are awesome!

I just saw on local news the other night that we are going to be short 1 million nurses in a few years. But if places aren't hiring, schools have waiting lists to get in AND they are constantly raising the GPA needed to get into the program, then what is all of this about? Methinks the news media is creating news and not looking at the hard cold facts. One of our med-surg units has been closed ALL SUMMER, because we don't have the patients needed to keep the unit open! So what does that tell you?

Our census is down too. People are waiting to have more complicated procedures done, or they are choosing not to have them done all together. I'm thinking that fields like hospice will be seeing more business because people will put off treatment and instead simply die from their illnesses.

Re: clarkemi (Post 137)
Why don't you try to be a travel nurse. it is one of the most high paying nursing jobs. And the other good news is, it is in demand.
