I felt like a mean nurse the other night. I had eight patients, felt I didn't really know them, even after spending eight hours with them..... and became a mean nurse by the end of the night. An older confused patient tried to hit me and she did end up throwing water all over me. As I walked out of the room I said something to the effect that I guess she didn't want a drink badly enough then. I hate when I let patients push my buttons.
Don't feel badly, she probably wasn't in any condition to understand what you said. Sometimes they push our button - we are human after all
I can get like that too sometimes. And then sometimes, my patients make a crappy day I've had at home, better by being really sweet!
I felt like the meanest nurse in MO the oher night. I had to do a stat lab on this lady who was dehydrated and didn't have any use for needles and I had another one looking for her husband that is there everyday and families calling and I couldn't get ahold of the on call DR BLAH BLAH BLAH, I was attempting to do the lab real quick and her room mate was well did you tell her to make a fist and kept going on about how I was doig everything wrong and I finnally just saif YES THANK YOU VERY MUCH and she wouldn't stop, between her and the lady crying b/c she didn't want to get stuck was just like YES THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR INPUT! She asked me if I hated her and I said no it's just not a good time to attemptingt to tell me how to do my job, but do like you just fine. I appoligized later and she didn't even remeber that we had a squabble
Nurses do have really tough jobs at times. But remember, without nurses, we'll be in a pathetic state. So don't give up!
