What is the most you can realistically make as a nurse? What specialty etc?

I've heard of Certified Nurse Anesthetists in the South making up to $300,000; wish it weren't true in a way and that I was more attracted to the specialty. After shadowing several CRNAs, my thought was "you couldn't pay me ENOUGH to stand in that little space hour after hour, not interacting a whole lot with the surgical team (because you're on the other side of the drape) and never know what time you're getting out of work that day. "

The cost of your private liability insurance will eat up most of the benefits, plus you WILL be sued... guaranteed a few times in your career. Also, CRNA programs are highly competitive. After obtaining your BSN, you'll need to apply to a CRNA program, but only after doing a few years of critical care nursing. Then you will had to have graduated at the top 5% or less of your class, and even then, there are only a few spots available. The program lasts approximately 5 years.

I will stay on the track of actual nurses pay.
It is easy to make $100,00 per year working ER,CCU,ICU, Surgery, also Telemetry. the most I have made working ER has been $190,000 I worked a lot of OT. You have to be looking in the right places to make the better monies. Now if you are wanting to go to nicer places you will struggle to make $70,000 to $80,000 So do not jump at the first thing that looks good. be friendly with other travelers, I call and get calls all the time of the higher paying jobs. I have been traveling for the past 10 years, A big thing to remember, Never agree to work anywhere until you have read the contract. Nurses are abused by travel companies on a regular basis, I have been screamed at by recruiters because I would not sign a contract. If you are just starting out traveling, feel free to email me at icareyRN@gmail.com

Depending on what part of the country you are situated $25 per hour is not bad. also mostly CRNA positions pay nearer $150,000 a year. there is always the exception but nothing is for nothing. the higher bucks are paid mostly when nobody want's the job.
