I was wondering about nursing history a bit and realized I have no idea when nurses first appeared. Anyone how old the nurse profession is?
It started with Florence... that's all I remember!
Nursing started with moms taking care of babies as far as I'm concerned. The first "nurse" to call herself a nurse, was I believe Florence Nightengale... at least she pioneered and standardized nursing care protocols.
If Florence Nightingale was the first nurse then nursing began in the mid 1850's when Florence cared for soldiers in the Crimean War and wrote her book
Notes on Nursing. Medicine was pretty primitive prior to that so I would say that's a good time to call the start
I remember we were supposed to read Florence's book in nursing school. I didn't and still aced the class, but I was wondering if you all thought it was still relevant today?
Where can you find florence Nightengales notes on nursing book? I tink that woud be awsome to read! ANYWAY, I remember my teachers in school saying that before miss florence made it a proud profession that nursing was a punishment for people, kinda like community service now a days. it's honestly amazing isn't it? Something that was a disgrace and not wanted and now we go to school for it and have tattoos on our bodies representing how proud of it we are. AWSOME!
You are a very smart woman, I read alot of your posts and all i have to say is you're very smart AND professional!
Florence Nightingale was probably the 1st to be called a nurse, nurse. Not just someone nursing another back to health. She started this nursing profession, otherwise in ancient times, mostly the nuns and monks nursed people back to health if they were injured or sick. Or family members will do it.
